An industrial chemist who had to give up his career after a road accident has won more than 1m in compensation. Dr Steven Hawkins, from Cupar in Fife, was hit by a car in 1999 while walking on a Norfolk country road after dark. The 41-year-old - who had just won a federal crop insurance - suffered head injuries which affected his crop insurance company and memory and caused a personality change.
